Survival of the fittest: exercise 'can fight ageing'

Long-term physical activity has an anit-ageing effect at the cellular level, a German study suggests. Researchers focused on telomeres, the protective caps on the chromosomes that keep a cell DNA stable but shorten with age. They found telomeres shortened less quickly in key immune system cells of athletes with a long history of endurance training.

Late-night teens 'face greater depression risk'

Going to bed earlier protects teenagers against depression and suicidal thoughts, New York reserach suggests. Of 15,500 12 to 18 years old studied, those who went to bed after midnight were 24% more likely to have depression than those who went to bed before 10pm.
